Winter

Winter.  We think of it as a season where most things have died out.  The leaves are off the trees, it’s dark and gloomy, and the sun sets early.  A lot of us think of Winter as a season to just “get through” as we await Spring and the promise of new life and possibilities.

This view of Winter could be used as a metaphor for a view of our professional or personal lives.  A view that reveals everything laying dormant waiting for the promise of the new growth of Spring to perpetuate better professional or personal lives.

But, if we allow that concept to drive us, then we are making an assumption that come Spring, our businesses and our personal lives will magically and mysteriously spring forth with fantastic possibilities and growth.

The reality is however, there’s work that needs to be done in the Winter garden of our professional and personal lives so that when Spring comes, it brings wonderful possibilities and positive new growth in our Spring garden of Business or Personal Success.  So, why not think of winter as a time for dreaming, planning, creating and even activating new possibilities, instead of as a time of dormancy and waiting.

Professionally, you could build better relationships with your team; get more organized or reassess goals.  On a personal level, you can build deeper relationships with family and friends; develop better communication, or work on creating a more peaceful you.  Take a chance to go beneath the surface and discover some more of who you really are, and see where that knowledge may take you.

During this “Winter Season,” lay some fertilizer down, pull some weeds reassess and take some actions that will allow you or your business to look forward to a Spring filled with deeper possibilities and success.

Winter is a great analogy, or perhaps a reminder that our lives have seasons as well. Well put Synthia. My family (not Jewish) recognized Yom Kippur this year as a time of "turning" and changing seasons. A time of renewal.

I think a time of reflection, pruning of unproductive stock, and seeking new directions for growth is a great idea in any year.

Thanks for a great reminder
